I’m currently working on getting my license to teach American History.
As we all probably know, its hard to find teaching jobs; especially for subjects such as mine. Any tips on how to find the job and be hired?
I’m sorry; I should be more specific. When I say there’s a lack of teaching jobs, I mean they are hard to get because so many people want them.

Be willing to move. There are plenty of places that need teachers. You just need to investigate where they are.
Find job websites for the cities and states you are looking in. In my state the department of education has a web alert in place that automatically notifies job hunters when a new position is posted.
Beyond that, let other people know that you are looking for jobs. When I hear about an upcoming opening (often a week or more before it is officially open), I email or call all of my friends who are looking for jobs in that area. Networking can be key in finding a job.
Good luck! If you are willing to be flexible and throw yourself out there, hopefully you will be able to find a job. Also, look for long term substitute jobs - sometimes they turn into full time gigs (like mine did!)
You don’t say where you live. The Southern US is hot right now–big growth. Currently, Texas, where I live, has had a teacher shortage in Math, Science and Bilingual Ed. Also, some teachers teach at the High School and then do coaching to help out. Go to other states’ teacher certification sites and see what you would need someplace else. Here is Texas’:
Also, read up on teacher interview questions and be prepared to answer them in several interviews, plus an online
Teacher Test by Gallup (or other such company), and criminal background check. Good luck!
